He was born October 8, 1932, in Bursville, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 23 years of service. He drove for Mason-Dixon for 10 years. He was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Bobbie Adkins;a grandson, David Matthews; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Adkins. He is survived by his loving wife, Tomiko Adkins. Also surviving are his sons, Keith and wife Cathy Adkins of Blountville, the Rev. Ed and wife Cindy Adkins of Kingsport and David Adkins of Rome, Georgia; daughters, Carrol Adkins of Benton, Tennessee, Kay and husband Pat Hurd of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee and Barbara "Chibi" and husband Wayne Fields of England; brother, Dennis and wife Macie Adkins of Blountville and Kenneth Adkins of Erwin; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Corbin Bishop, who passed away on September 22, 2001. Survivors include his mother, Velma Lois Bishop, of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Aunt, Jean and husband Bobby Cox of Germantown, Maryland; Uncle, Harold and wife Partha Maness of Gray, Tennessee; Numerous cousins to include two special cousins, Brandy Danielle Wissinger of Maryland and Wilma Jean Davis of Kingsport, Tennessee. A native of Sullivan County, Carl retired from Eastman Kodak Organic Chemicals in 1990 and served his country in the US Army. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed life. Carl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl F. Bowery, Sr. and mother, Sarah E. Bowery; and a son, Michael W. Bowery. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, M. Vileta Bowery; daughter, Melissa B. Jones and husband Bob; granddaughters, Sarah H. Jones and husband Jason, Leslie Cheyenne Bowery and grandson, Mikel Seth Bowery; great-grandchildren, Kelsi Collins and Jordan Collins; sister, Doris Hungate; brothers, Willard Bowery and wife Judy, Ed Bowery and wife Lois and RL Bowery and wife Mary Ruth; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Russell County, Virginia and had been a resident of the area most of his life. He was retired from Eastman Chemical Company, where he was a chemical operator. As a member of Harmony Baptist Church, he was very active in the choir. Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Carter, who he was married to for 32 years; also preceding are his parents, Sam and Orpha Gamble Carter. He was preceded in death by his former wife Dianne Christian Cain in 2003 and their son, Joshua Matthew Christian in 2002. Dan is survived by his parents, Claude Ray and Stella McLain Christian of Mt. Carmel; one brother, Gordon R. and wife Donna Christian of Gray, Tennessee; one niece, Sarah Christian of Gray, Tennessee; several aunts and cousins. He was a graduate of Church Hill High School, Class of 1972. He served his Lord Jesus through several pastorates and mission organizations, both foreign and stateside. She was born February 24, 1922 in Sevier County, Tennessee. She is the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mamie Sisk Forrester. Ortelle spent several years as a teacher's aide at the Palmer Memorial Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. She was an avid racing fan and an avid UT Volunteer Fan. Ortelle was once married to the late AB Clevenger, Sr. She is preceded in death also by her sisters, Lucille, Irene and Vivian. Surviving are three sons, AB and Debbie Clevenger of Blountville, Tennessee, Fred Clevenger and companion Sandra Smith, Elmo and wife Gloria Clevenger, both of Kingsport, Tennessee. Also surviving are five grandsons, Bryant and wife Kathy Clevenger of Annapolis, Maryland, Mark Clevenger of Kingsport, Tennessee, Tim and wife Penny Clevenger of Johnson City, Tennessee, Mike Clevenger of Orange, Virginia and Jason and wife Charmain Clevenger of Boston, Massachussetts. Jenny was the daughter of the late Orlan N. and Nannie B. Fincher. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth E. Fincher and her sister, Glenna F. Sells. Jenny was a 1942 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, and was employed at Tennessee Eastman for several years, and then employed by Piedmont Airlines at the Tri-City Airport. She later transferred to Winston-Salem, NC, and retired in 1987 as a supervisor, then returned to Kingsport to live. Before Jenny started having health problems, she attended Kingsport Community Church and the Reflections Sunday School class. Jenny is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty C. Fincher, of Kingsport; nieces, Tracie Fincher, of Kingsport, and Terri Fincher McCormick and husband Bill of Hickory, NC; and a great-niece, Chelsea McCormick of Hickory, NC. The family of Genevieve (Jenny) Fincher would like to thank the employees of Wellington Place, Wexford House, and Adventa Hospice for their great care of Jenny during her declining health and illness. A native of Blytheville, Arkansas, she made her home in a variety of other places throughout her life, including Alaska, Missouri and New Mexico before settling in East Tennessee in 1987 where she and her husband retired for the remainder of her days. A born again Christian, she was a proud member of the Temple Baptist Church in Bristol, Tennessee and though our hearts are saddened by her loss here on earth, we rejoice in the fact that she sits at our Savior's feet. After the war, he returned to Kingsport and worked 42 years for Eastman Kodak. He retired to farm and to enjoy his family, his horses and hunting dogs. A graduate of Holston High School and East Tennessee Teachers College (Now East Tennessee State University), she taught in Sullivan County for 10 years. After her teaching career, she spent her time serving others through her church, Pleasant Church of the Brethren. She instilled her love of education and books through her work with the PTA, in which she as a life-time member, and the Sullivan County and Watauga Regional Library Boards. She was chairman of the Sullivan County Board when the current Blountville Branch Library was built. She was active in her community by participating in the Fairview Community Club and Fairview Home Demonstration Club, serving as a 4-H Leader and as a secretary of the Sullivan County Fair Association. In 1941, she married Charles Elmer Jones who preceded her in death in 1977. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Jones; one sister, Georgia Jones; and three brothers, Paul Garst, J.C. Garst and Sam Henry Garst. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Sam and Susie Jones of Kingsport, Ann Heuberger of Austin, Texas, Susan and Gladwyn Bowlin of Stockbridge, Georgia, Becky and Alan Booker of Greeneville, Tennessee. He was promoted to his Heavenly home on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Tweed was a veteran with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He was a retired social worker and was awarded many commendations for his service as a faithful public servant. Harley enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, flea markets and yard sales. He served as a Lay Pastor at various churches and was a member of the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church in West Logan, West Virginia. She was sister to Laura Whitson and her husband, Dale of Fairview, Jonathan Shuford and his wife, Jessica of Fairview and Jody Shuford and his wife, Cynthia of Cruso. She was aunt to Levi and Judah Whitson and Todd and Natalie Shuford. She was mommy to her pet chihuahua, Chloe. She was granddaughter to Howard and Birdell Wheeler of Cruso and Elden and Vada Shuford of Cruso. She was niece and cousin to many. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. The Family will receive friends from 12 PM to 2 PM Saturday at Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Cruso, NC. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM at Grace Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Survivors include her husband Stanley Woodby of the home; her father, James Shipley of Gray; two step-sons, Seth Woodby and Chase Woodby both of Elizabethton; two brothers, Billy and wife Lisa Puckett of Kingsport, and Wiley of Jupiter, Tennessee; sister, Rose Mathes of Fall Branch; several nieces and nephews; two special nieces, Betty and Penny Puckett; one special nephew, Billy Puckett.
